Architecture Intent

Strategic Vision

  • What we are building: An Architecture Intelligence Platform that bridges Business Intent, Architecture, and Code through automated reasoning loops.
  • Why it exists: To eliminate the gap between strategic intent and technical reality, preventing architectural drift through continuous, embedded governance participation.

Project Context

Current State Alignment

The system is 'partially aligned'. Foundational primitives are stable, but a significant persistence lag exists for core decisions (ADR-001, ADR-002), and the governance backlog is saturated with 22 unprogressed proposals.

Focus Areas / Roadmap

  • Formalize Business Intent Schema and integrate with the Alignment Engine to enable strategic traceability.
  • Execute a bulk governance review cycle to clear the 22-item Architecture Work backlog.
  • Persist pending ADRs for the Architecture Work Registry and Governance Lifecycle to stabilize the source of truth.
  • Implement the Code Intelligence Layer for automated structural analysis and drift detection.
  • Develop the Architecture Knowledge Graph to enable cross-project impact analysis and visualization.

Gaps & Tensions (Risks)

  • Persistence Lag: Foundational decisions are operational but lack formal ADR records, creating a source-of-truth deficit.
  • Governance Velocity: Proposal generation (22 items) is outpacing governance decision-making (6 items), risking 'governance debt'.
  • Intent Definition: The lack of a structured Business Intent Schema prevents the Alignment Engine from performing high-fidelity strategic validation.
  • Silo Risk: CAS must integrate with external enterprise ecosystems (EAM/CI-CD) to avoid becoming an isolated documentation silo.

Principles

  • Decisions are Central: All system capabilities and insights must anchor to a formal Architecture Decision Record (ADR).
  • Traceability over Abstraction: Every architectural insight must be linked to verifiable evidence in code or business artifacts.
  • Human-in-the-Loop: Automation participates in detection and reasoning, but humans remain the authoritative governors and deciders.
  • Continuous Participation: Governance is an active delivery participant, not a post-implementation review event.
  • Extend, Don't Rewrite: Evolve capabilities by building upon established CAS primitives (Patterns, AEM, AID).

Emergent Heuristics

backlog_pressure_threshold: When the ratio of 'Proposed' to 'Done' architecture work exceeds 3:1, a mandatory governance synchronization event is required. intent_linkage_rule: No architectural pattern can be promoted to 'Governed' status without a direct mapping to a Business Intent signal.
